Q. How do I know what size hat I would wear?
A. Measure the distance around your head at the position where your hat normally rests, using a soft tape measure (dressmaker/tailor type). This is usually done right above the ears and across the forehead. Find the measurement and corresponding hat size on the chart below that comes the closest to your usual hat size. Do not try to determine the size by measuring the inside of your hat. Using this measurement will cause the new hat to be made to small.
Q. How do I know if I have an oval, long oval or round head shape?
A. If the hats you try on tend to fit tighter in the front and back you probably need a long oval. If the hat fits tighter on the sides you need an oval. Most people have an oval head shape. The other head shape is round and it is just that, very round. This head shape is fairly uncommon.
Q. What does the "X" mean?
A. An "X" is what hat makers and hat companies use to indicate the quality and material of a hat. The higher the "X" value the greater the percentage of beaver in the hat body. Our 100X hats are 100% pure beaver.
Some companies have developed their own "X" scales and are marketing hats that they label as 200X, 300X, 400X and even 500X. Call it what you want. 100% pure beaver is the highest quality, most durable hat you can buy. A pure beaver hat is truly top of the line.
K bar F Hatters also makes 5X, 10X, 20X and 50X hats. These are
quality hats that are a blend of beaver and hare.

Q. How long does it take to get a hat from the time of order?
A. About 4-6 weeks.
Q. How do I take care of my hat?
A. Regular brushing will help to keep dirt from getting worked into the hat body. When brushing, if the crown side is up, brush counter-clockwise. Brush clockwise when brushing the bottom side of the hat.
For long-term storage, an adjustable hat can is ideal. Hat cans can be viewed on our Accessories page. A hat can is adjustable to fit your hat size and holds your hat up, keeping the weight off the brim. It also protects it from dust and moths.
Remember - Never set your hat brim side down. This puts the weight of the hat on the brim and can cause it to flatten out.
